The primary research focus of Lab PHISTA is to apply information, information technology, and knowledge management to improve public health practice, education, management and policy.  Our previous work include:

Public health emergency preparedness
Smoking cessation Research
Health information for the underserved

Lab PHISTA seeks to apply informatics solutions to address public health challenges of our times. We collaborate with colleagues across Texas and beyond to address emerging areas of importance such as disaster vulnerability, disability informatics, emergency preparedness & response, and the reduction of health disparities.  Our lab members  participated in two dozen of peer review publications, book chapters, and 30 conference papers/presentations in public health informatics. See national media communication and quotes of our work
